Frequently Asked Questions

AYSO United Hawaii FAQ

What is AYSO Hawaii United Club?
AYSO United Hawaii is the official club program of AYSO, allowing players who have the skills and abilities, to play against other youth soccer organizations (non-AYSO) within a club gaming circuit, without compromising the AYSO philosophies or our commitment to enriching children’s lives that makes AYSO unique among all youth sports organizations.

What is Club Soccer?
Club Soccer is the most competitive level of play where players tryout for teams and compete against other club teams within a club gaming circuit.

Who runs the AYSO United Hawaii program?
AYSO United Hawaii is a local based program, and is part of a National program that is managed and operated at the National level by a National Director. AYSO United Hawaii will be run by a local club director who is responsible for the coach selection and team formation.

Can anyone tryout?
Yes, anyone can tryout. However, parents should be aware that team spaces are limited in club and teams will not be formed based on numbers of tryout participants. Players who do not make the club team can still participate in the AYSO Core Program or EXTRA Program if available. Tryouts are normally held in June, but players may be added to the team based on need throughout the year.

What does my making the team mean to me?

Players selected for United are encouraged to participate with their Core or Extra / Select Teams, however there may be games and tournaments where there is a conflict. Due to fines imposed by club soccer for teams forfeiting games, emphasis should be given to the AYSO United team

Who coaches the team?
AYSO United Teams will be coached by those who continue to believe in our six philosophies, who have completed their certification in Safe Haven and CDC Concussion Awareness and also have the age appropriate AYSO and HYSA coach certifications.

How long is the season?
Club season will be a year round commitment. Typically teams will play in the Fall season (Recreational-Aug – mid-Dec). winter (Competitive-Jan-Feb), spring season (Competitive-Mar-May), and Thanksgiving & President's Day State Cup tournaments. Teams are eligible to play in AYSO tournaments. Training is year round with a break usually over Summer (July) and Christmas (December).

How often do the teams train?
Teams will train a minimum of twice a week during the peak season, however there may be additional training requirements (goalkeeper) (Speed and agility). Typically, after the spring and fall teams may reduce to once a week to give players a recovery period. Practices can range from 1-2 hours depending on the age of the players.

What ages are the teams?
Club soccer follows US Soccer’s mandates of calendar birth year so a player will play for their year of birth. For example if your hild is born in 2006 your team will be the 2006 Team (12U).

How much will it cost?
Division fees include two HYSA seasons and AYSO United Hawaii club admin fees.  Additional fees to be collected at time of registration include AYSO United Club and AYSO Membership fees.  The HYSA player registration fee is paid direct to HYSA in a separate registration.  Additional fees will be collected throughout the year based on participation in additional seasons and tournaments.  Uniforms will be purchased by the parent direct from soccer.com.  A minimum kit of 2 game sets and training set are required.

What are the next steps?
If you feel your child is ready for club soccer have your child attend one of our AYSO United tryouts. Sign up for the tryouts by completing a Player Registration Form at www.aysounitedhi.org.

When are Club games? Sundays and possibly Saturdays, depending on the league and season.

Will there be teams for every division?
There will be teams for divisions where there is/are qualified and interested Coach(es).

Will the United Coach be allowed to select players?

Two or more neutral evaluators will be used, in addition to the coach.
